LC3 Codec and True Multi-Stream Audio

LE Audio replaces the 20-year-old SBC codec with LC3. Listening tests conducted using ITU-R BS.1116-style methodology found that LC3 operating at 160 kbps was rated with comparable or higher subjective audio fidelity than SBC at 345 kbps, while dramatically reducing latency to 20–30 ms.

Furthermore, LE Audio natively supports True Multi-Stream Audio, allowing a source to transmit synchronized independent streams to left and right earbuds without master-slave relay hacks.

Auracast Broadcast and PAwR IoT Scaling

  • Auracast: Enables an audio source (TV in a public gym, airport gate, or theater) to broadcast unencrypted or PIN-protected audio to an unlimited number of in-range Auracast hearing aids and earbuds.
