Electrodynamic Energy Harvesting

The core of EnOcean's kinetic switches is the ECO 200 electrodynamic energy converter. When a user depresses a light switch rocker, a small magnetic core snaps across an inductive coil, generating approximately 50 to 100 micro-watt-seconds (µWs) of raw electrical energy. This instantaneous pulse powers an ultra-low-power radio ASIC to formulate, encrypt, and broadcast a 14-byte RF telegram containing the switch state three separate times within 1 millisecond.

EnOcean is widely deployed in commercial real estate and smart architecture. Batteryless wall switches can be glued directly to glass partitions or historic masonry without running electrical conduits, eliminating the battery replacement and disposal costs associated with thousands of commercial IoT sensors.
