Official golf hole dimensions are governed by the USGA and The R&A (Rules of Golf Rule 1.1 / Equipment Rules Appendix IV). A regulation golf hole must have a diameter of exactly 4.25 in (108.0 mm) and a minimum depth of 4.0 in (101.6 mm). If a cup liner is inserted, the outer diameter of the liner must not exceed 4.25 in, and its top lip must be sunken at least 1.0 in (25.4 mm) below the green putting surface.

Regulation American tournament tables (9-foot) have a playing surface of 100 × 50 in (254.0 × 127.0 cm; strict 2:1 ratio) with 1.0 in (25.4 mm) slate, corner pocket openings of 4.5–4.625 in, and use 2.25 in (57.15 mm) balls (5.5–6.0 oz). British pool uses 7-foot tables with 2.0 in balls, and Snooker uses 12-foot tables with 2.0625 in balls.
