Why the Boeing 767 Uses LD2 Instead of LD3
The Boeing 767 has a fuselage diameter of 5.03 m (compared to 5.64 m on the A330 and 6.20 m on the B777). Because a pair of standard LD3 containers (156 cm base each) would exceed the 767's lower hold width, Boeing developed the LD2 with a narrower 119 cm base width, allowing two LD2s to fit side-by-side.
