A Duodecimo (abbreviated 12mo or 12°) is a classical pocket book format created by folding a printer's sheet into 12 leaves (24 printed pages). Measuring approximately 4.75 × 7.5 inches (120 × 190 mm) or 5.0 × 7.75 inches, it was the historical ancestor of the modern paperback, widely used for personal devotional books, poetry collections, and traveler guides.

A Folio (abbreviated 2° or fo) is a traditional book format created by folding a full printer's master sheet (Broadside) in half once, producing 2 leaves (4 printed pages). Measuring approximately 12 × 19 inches (305 × 483 mm) or larger, it is historically reserved for monumental prestige publications, including the Gutenberg Bible (1455) and Shakespeare's First Folio (1623).

A Mass Market Paperback (also known as a Pocket Book / Rack-Size Novel) is a standardized commercial book publishing format measuring 4.25 × 6.875 inches (108 × 175 mm). Engineered for high-volume rotary letterpress/web offset printing on groundwood pulp paper, it is designed to fit spinning wire display racks in airports, supermarkets, and drugstores.

An Octavo (abbreviated 8vo or 8°) is the premier classical book format created by folding a printer's sheet three times, producing 8 leaves (16 printed pages). Measuring approximately 6 × 9 inches (152 × 229 mm), it has been the dominant format for hardcover literature, scientific treatises, and library books for over four centuries.

A Quarto (abbreviated 4to or 4°) is a classical book format created by folding a printer's sheet twice—first in half across length, then in half across width—producing 4 leaves (8 printed pages). Measuring approximately 9.5 × 12 inches (241 × 305 mm), it is famous as the original publication format for individual Renaissance theatrical plays and illustrated scientific treatises.

A Trade Paperback (TPB) is a higher-quality commercial softcover book format measuring typically 6.0 × 9.0 inches (152 × 229 mm) or 5.5 × 8.5 inches (140 × 216 mm). Printed on archival acid-free text paper with high-grade coated covers, it is sold through traditional trade bookstores for non-fiction, academic literature, and premium fiction.
