The 1-Inch = 5-Foot RPG Standard

In Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, and most grid-based RPGs, the battlefield is mapped to 1-inch (25.4 mm) squares:

Each 1-inch square represents a 5×5 foot area in the game world.
Medium and Small characters (humans, elves, dwarves, goblins) occupy exactly one 1-inch square (25–32 mm base).
Large creatures (horses, ogres) occupy a 2×2 inch square (4 squares / 10×10 ft).
Huge creatures (giants, dragons) occupy a 3×3 inch square (9 squares / 15×15 ft).
Gargantuan creatures occupy a 4×4 inch square or larger (20×20+ ft).

Modern Wargaming Battlefield Sizes (44×60")

In 9th and 10th edition Warhammer 40k and Age of Sigmar, standard tournament table dimensions were officially updated from the historic 4×6 ft (48×72") size to smaller, more action-dense minimum table sizes:

44 × 30 inches: Combat Patrol and Kill Team (500 pts).
44 × 60 inches: Incursion (1,000 pts) and Strike Force (2,000 pts standard tournament play).
44 × 90 inches: Onslaught (3,000+ pts massive battles).
