Automotive exhaust tubing is conventionally sized by outside diameter (OD, commonly 2.0 to 4.0 inches / 51 to 102 mm) and 16-to-18-gauge wall thickness. There is no single regulatory standard governing pipe-diameter-to-horsepower sizing; the horsepower ranges below are industry rule-of-thumb estimates (built around a commonly used ~2.2 CFM-per-horsepower rule and a target exhaust gas velocity of 250–300 ft/s), not fixed engineering limits — actual optimal sizing depends heavily on engine efficiency, RPM power band, and forced induction.
SAE J300 is the universal standard defining engine oil viscosity grades. Multigrade oils (e.g. 0W-20, 5W-30) specify two metrics: a low-temperature Winter ('W') grade governing Cold Cranking Simulator (CCS) and Mini-Rotary Viscometer (MRV) pumpability at sub-zero temperatures (-40°C to -10°C), and a high-temperature 100°C kinematic viscosity (cSt) and High-Temperature High-Shear (HTHS) rating.
