Air Traffic & Location Codes

Under ICAO Annex 7, every civil aircraft must display a unique national registration mark consisting of a Country Nationality Prefix followed by an alphanumeric registration suffix (e.g., N for United States, G- for United Kingdom, TC- for Turkey, F- for France, D- for Germany, JA- for Japan).

Airlines are identified by three standard designations: IATA 2-character designators for commercial ticketing (e.g., BA, LH, TK, AA), ICAO 3-letter designators for air traffic control flight plans (e.g., BAW, DLH, THY, AAL), and official Radiotelephony Callsigns ("Speedbird", "Lufthansa", "Turkish", "American").

Airport codes identify airfields globally across two primary standards: IATA 3-letter codes (passenger-facing, luggage tags, ticketing, e.g., JFK, LHR, IST, HND) and ICAO 4-letter location indicators (air traffic control, flight plans, weather METARs, e.g., KJFK, EGLL, LTFM, RJTT).
