D2S Projector vs D2R Reflector Keying
HID bulbs are split into two optical types:
- D2S (Clear): Designed strictly for projector lenses where an internal cutoff shield controls beam glare.
- D2R (Masked): Features a black ceramic painted mask stripe on the outer glass tube designed for reflector headlights to block light from blinding oncoming traffic.
The metal base slots are keyed differently to prevent installing a non-shielded D2S bulb into a reflector housing.
